AUSTIN, Texas — Austin FC came from three goals down to draw San Diego FC 3-3 on Saturday night at Q2 Stadium. Austin FC said it is the first time the club has trailed by three goals and still taken a result, and that the draw extended an unbeaten run to eight matches.
The Associated Press listed Austin at 7-10-10 and San Diego at 8-11-8 after the match.
Austin did not allow a shot in the first half. Besard Sabovic won the ball, and Ervin Torres hit the post on the chance that followed, the club said.
San Diego scored three times after halftime. Aníbal Godoy scored unassisted in the 50th minute. Mikkel Desler put the ball into his own net in the 58th. Marcus Ingvartsen made it 3-0 in the 64th minute, assisted by Anders Dreyer and Cédric Bakambu.
Brandon Vazquez started the reply in the 73rd minute, heading in a cross from Ervin Torres. Ilie Sánchez also was credited with an assist. Austin FC said it was Vazquez’s first goal since he returned from an ACL injury.
Christian Ramirez scored in the 82nd minute, assisted by Jon Bell and Mikkel Desler, and again in the 86th, assisted by Jon Gallagher and Ervin Torres. The second goal made it 3-3.
The Associated Press reported that Godoy’s goal was his first of the season, Ingvartsen’s was his 12th, and Ramirez’s equalizer was his ninth. Austin goalkeeper Damian Las made three saves in his second career start. San Diego’s Duran Ferree made two.
