Sources: RB James Conner reworks deal to stay with Cardinals

TEMPE, Ariz. — The Cardinals and running back James Conner reworked the final year of his contract to keep him in Arizona for the 2026 season, NFL Network reported Sunday.

Conner was set to earn $6.39 million in 2026 with a $9.83 million cap hit. To avoid being released for cap savings, Conner’s deal was revised.

Conner, who will be 31 on May 5, played in just three games last season after sustaining an ankle injury in Week 3 at San Francisco.

Conner finished last season with 95 rushing yards after rushing for more than 1,000 yards — the first 1,000-yard seasons of his career — in each of the previous two seasons.

Conner, who is entering his sixth season with Arizona, signed a two-year extension with the Cardinals in late 2024.

The nine-year veteran has rushed for 6,065 yards with 289 receptions for 2,255 yards in his career. He has 72 total touchdowns (60 rushing).
