Austin FC’s own preview puts San Diego one point ahead in the Western Conference, the playoff line two points above Austin, and four points between eighth place and 14th. Saturday’s home match against San Diego is the game that sits on that margin.
A Western Conference table published by Goal.com after the FC Dallas draw listed Austin at 30 points from 26 matches: 7 wins, 9 draws, 10 losses, 32 goals for, 44 against, minus-12 goal difference. That table had San Diego 10th on 31 points and Austin 11th. Other public tables this week have shuffled the places around Austin by a spot. The club’s sentence is the one used here: San Diego by a point, playoff line two points up, four points from 8th to 14th.
How Austin got to the margin
The point came from a 0-0 draw at FC Dallas on Saturday night at Toyota Stadium. Austin FC Communications said Stuver’s save on Kaick in the 11th minute, a saved Gallagher shot in the second half, and two more Stuver saves in stoppage time extended an unbeaten run to seven matches. The later preview called Stuver’s night a Team of the Matchday performance.
San Diego’s week, in that same preview: a 2-2 draw with Inter Miami in which Anders Dreyer scored twice, ending a three-match losing streak. Marcus Ingvartsen is listed at 11 goals and five assists, and Dreyer at 11 goals and 11 assists. The preview says San Diego has the league’s highest average possession, 59.8 percent, and that dos Santos will not play Saturday because he is with Cape Verde.
The only earlier meeting at Q2 Stadium, in March 2025, was an Austin win. The club says the goals were from Brandon Vazquez and Jon Gallagher.
