The former England star couldn’t contain himself while dissecting the game for the BBC

Wales endured another tough day at the office on Sunday, as they were outclassed by Six Nations favourites France at the Principality Stadium. Les Bleus ran over eight tries on their way to a hugely comfortable 54-14 win, their biggest ever in Cardiff.

It was also the lowest crowd the Principality Stadium has ever seen for a Six Nations match, and those in red that did attend had little to cheer on another disappointing day.

Wales didn’t help themselves at times. A case in point was Adam Beard’s fluffed kick, which ultimately led to Matthieu Jalibert running over France’s bonus-point try. That horror moment all proved too much for Rugby Special presenter Ugo Monye who couldn’t control his laughter during Sunday night’s show.

Chris Ashton and John Barclay, dissecting the game for on the weekly highlights show, picked out that moment as an example of where things are going wrong for Wales.

Ashton, seemingly on the verge of cracking up with laughter himself, said: “Poor Beard got caught in a tricky situation today.

“This is the sign of where Wales are,” he added as footage of Beard’s mistake started to roll.

“For me. If this is a confident side, a confident forward, he’s looking…”

Monye, unable to contain himself, then interrupted by bursting into laughter as Beard’s mis-kick is shown.

“I’m instantly going ‘where’s Zammit? Throw the ball to Zammit’,” Ashton continues.

“But no, Beard picks it up. He’s a second row trying to find something for his team and…”

Monye can then be heard laughing again as the mistake is replayed.

“Poor guy. Misses the ball completely,” Ashton adds.

“That’s where they are.”
