Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has landed a highly-coveted award as a reward for his brilliant form over the past few weeks.
Exceptional streak
Sesko enjoyed an incredible February, which saw him score multiple crucial goals to maintain the club’s unbeaten start under Michael Carrick.
His month started with a wonderful stoppage-time winner against Fulham. United had been leading 2-0 and looked poised to secure all three points, but they were stunned as the Cottagers made it 2-2 in a flash courtesy of goals from Raul Jimenez and Kevin.
Just as the game seemed destined for a draw, substitute Sesko connected with a brilliant Bruno Fernandes cross to turn and fire home the winner.
The Slovenian followed that up by rescuing United from the jaws of defeat at West Ham. The Red Devils were frustrated by West Ham, who retreated to a stubborn low block after taking the lead. Sesko was brought on from the bench yet again and came up with the goods, meeting Bryan Mbeumo’s cross to apply a deft finish and make it 1-1.
The United No. 30 then made it three goals in four substitute appearances across the month. He had already scored a second-half decider after coming on against Everton. He also featured against Tottenham Hotspur.
Sesko claimed United’s Player of the Month award and is also in contention for the Premier League’s equivalent.
Now, it has been confirmed that he has won the PFA Premier League Fans’ Player of the Month for February.
Sesko honoured
To bag the honour, Sesko successfully warded off competition from Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres, Manchester City duo Erling Haaland and Nico O’Reilly (Man City), Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer and Bournemouth star Rayan.
It is the first time that Sesko has won the PFA award.
The last time a United player landed the accolade was in October, when summer signing Bryan Mbeumo achieved the feat.
Sesko will be hoping for similarly good news on Friday when the Premier League announce their February Player of the Month winner.
