Carlos Adames (25-1-1, 18 KOs) kept control of his title fight from early and never let Austin Williams (20-2, 13 KOs) turn it into his kind of night, winning a clear unanimous decision on Saturday at the Caribe Royale in Orlando.
The scores were wide and consistent. Judges turned in cards of 117-109, 117-109, and 118-108, all for Adames, reflecting a fight where the champion set the terms and kept them.
Adames came forward behind steady pressure and hard shots to the body and head, forcing Williams to work in spots rather than build anything steady. Williams, a southpaw, looked to use his jab and movement, but he was often pushed back and had to reset before he could get going.
There were exchanges, but Adames was the one landing the heavier punches and taking control of the rounds. Williams had moments where he tried to answer back, yet he could not hold position long enough to change the direction of the fight. The champion kept closing distance and making him work every round.
No knockdowns were recorded, though the difference showed in how the rounds were scored. Adames stayed on the front foot and kept his output steady, while Williams spent long stretches reacting and trying to create space.
The win comes after Adames’ draw with Hamzah Sheeraz, a result many felt could have gone his way. In this outing, he left no doubt on the cards and made a firm first defense of his WBC middleweight title.
Williams, coming off strong recent wins, was stepping into his first world title fight and found the level a step higher over 12 rounds. He showed effort throughout but could not slow Adames or take control at any point.
The main event capped a Matchroom Boxing card in Orlando, streamed on DAZN, with Adames closing the night by keeping his belt and his place near the top of the middleweight division.
