LeBron James’ dominance in his Miami Heat days also translated to the driveway.
After the Los Angeles Lakers’ Friday night 116-99 win over the Brooklyn Nets, Bronny James spoke confidently in the locker room about the last time he and his father matched up in a game of one-on-one.
The result? According to Bronny, the elder James broke a backboard.
And he wasn’t lying.
After the Lakers’ 120-101 win over the Washington Wizards on Monday night where LeBron stuffed the scorebook with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists, he confirmed that the one-on-one game against his son ended up with glass on the driveway.
“We had a hoop in our driveway and I drove around him and dunked it. I didn’t mean to shatter the glass but, I shattered it,” LeBron recalled.
The game, which the James duo says happened in 2014, took place at their Miami residence. LeBron says that while Bronny, now 21, made a couple of shots in the game, the outcome was never in doubt.
“That’s like Miami Bron — that’s like invincible Bron, so it’s not like he was about to win,” LeBron joked.
After the backboard was broken, LeBron couldn’t recall if they replaced the backboard at their Miami house.
“I didn’t mean to shatter it — I had to buy another one, or did I even buy another one? Bronny, did I even buy another hoop?” LeBron asked.
“I don’t think you did,” Bronny replied.
“I don’t think I did either. Yeah, I think that was it.”
As the world awaits a one-on-one rematch between the duo, LeBron is currently averaging 20.9 points, six rebounds and seven assists in the 2025-26 regular season.
