Monday will be the 40th anniversary of the last time a McLaren lined-up on pole at Zandvoort – but on Saturday, Lando Norris never looked likely to let that sequence extend.
Norris’s command performance in qualifying took P1, three tenths of a second ahead of Max Verstappen. The Dutch driver, seeking a fourth consecutive home victory, is his nearest rival and has form when it comes to displacing the McLaren man on the run into the first corner.
