Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg became the youngest player in the history of the NBA to score 50 points in a game, as the rookie scored 51 points in a 138-127 loss to the Orlando Magic on Friday.
Flagg, 19 years and 103 days old, was briefly pulled late in the fourth quarter when he was given a 45-point lead by assistant coach Frank Vogel, who was filling in for fired coach Jason Kidd.
But after the comeback, Flagg hit a layup, then grabbed 50 points with a bucket and a foul, made the free throw and exited the game to a standing ovation. He finished the fourth quarter with 24 points.
Flagg went 19-for-30 from the field, including 6-of-9 from long range, and made all seven free throws.
He is the ninth rookie to score 50 or more points in a game, and the first to do so since Brandon Jennings scored 55 points during the 2009-10 season, according to ESPN research.
