Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has spoken out about Michael Carrick’s potential to be named the new manager of the club.

Michael Carrick interim

The Red Devils have been impressive since Michael Carrick became manager, winning six out of eight league games.

These victories included wins over Arsenal and Manchester City in consecutive weeks.

Nonetheless, despite improving his chances of becoming the club’s manager, the Red Devils are still monitoring numerous options.

They have been linked to managers such as Roberto De Zerbi, Oliver Glasner and Julian Nagelsmann, to name a few.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe comments

The United hierarchy has understandably been tight-lipped about who will be the new manager, but with the end of the season fast approaching, they will soon need to start making steps towards a final decision on who will become the next permanent head coach.

Clearly, sporting director Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada will have significant input in this decision, but owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is also highly likely to be involved in discussions.

Sky Sports interviewed the British billionaire at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai, China, and asked him to comment on Carrick’s performance so far.

Commenting on what he has thought of Carrick so far, he answered, “he’s doing an excellent job. Yeah, absolutely.”

Nonetheless, when he was pressed on whether Carrick has done enough to get the job permanently, he responded rapidly, “not going there.”

Ratcliffe was then asked to comment on what he thought of United qualifying for the Champions League next season.

He responded, “yes, clearly we’re thinking about that. But there’s still seven or eight games to go. Still a while yet.”

United will welcome Aston Villa to Old Trafford tomorrow afternoon, knowing a win would do wonders for their chances of qualifying for Europe’s premier competition next season.
