American snowboarder Chloe Kim made history at the Winter Olympics on Thursday.

Kim, who was trying to become the first snowboarder to win three consecutive Olympic gold medals with her victory in the women’s halfpipe final, appeared to be on the right track after achieving an 88.00 in her first round. However, a fall on her second attempt left her vulnerable, and 17-year-old South Korean Choi Ja-eun took advantage, scoring 90.25 points in her third round. Kim was unable to overcome this deficit, so she fell in her third round.

The men’s ice hockey preliminary round has begun with the United States and Canada among the participating countries. The U.S. team hasn’t won gold in men’s Olympic hockey since 1980, but it will be gold this year or miss. “That’s the expectation,” Captain Auston Matthews said. Both the USA and Canada started well in their opening match, winning 5-1 and 5-0 respectively.
