Manchester United have been linked to numerous players, even though the summer transfer window will not open for another four months.
Winger pursuit
The Red Devils have been extensively linked with midfielders, and it seems likely that they will strengthen this area in the summer.
There have also been rumours that the club is pursuing more traditional wingers after reverting to a system that utilises wide attacking players, following the departure of Ruben Amorim as head coach.
Red Bull Leipzig’s Ivory Coast star, Yan Diomande, is said to be of major interest this summer.
The Red Devils have also been linked with Athletic Club’s Nico Williams as a potential signing.
Shock link
Interestingly, United have also been linked with former Liverpool and Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling.
The club did show interest in signing the England international back in 2024, before he ultimately joined Arsenal on loan for the 2024–2025 season.
The former Chelsea winger terminated his contract with the club during the last transfer window and signed for Feyenoord under former United forward Robin van Persie. However, it is believed he is using the move as a stepping stone to return to the Premier League.
Deal highly unlikely
TEAMtalk reports that the deal is highly unlikely, to say the least. Discussing the issue, they state, “it is hard to see Man Utd signing Sterling in the summer of 2026.”
The sports site also adds, “Sterling is 31-years-old now and is past his prime, and Man Utd are not going bring him to Old Trafford and hope that he returns to form.”
What’s more, TEAMtalk quashes reports that United would need to pay a transfer fee, as Sterling will become a free agent this summer when his loan move to Feyenoord ends.
Final thoughts
Not only would a move for Sterling go completely against Ineos’ recent transfer model, but the attacker is woefully past his best, having scored just one goal in 28 matches for Arsenal last season.
