In just over two weeks, the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympic Games are drawing to a close, bringing exciting events and unforgettable moments on a massive scale.

In our effort to provide an overview of the scope of competition that occurs at the Games as well as some of the more specific individual moments, we’ve put together compilation collections that take a look at the story of each day of the Games overall, as well as one specific shot of particular significance.

Here are the 2026 Winter Olympics, as shown in photos.

Day 1:

Moment of the day: Every Games needs its first gold medal winner, and Switzerland’s Franjo von Almine provided that moment in Milan, winning the men’s downhill in the 24-year-old’s first Olympic race.

Day 2:

Moment of the day: Breezy Johnson took the USA off the gold medal table on the second day of the Games, providing a small boost to Team USA to conclude a downhill event weakened by Lindsey Vonn’s brutal accident earlier in the day.

Day 3:

Moment of the day: The US mixed doubles duo of Corey Theis and Corey Dropkin posted a thrilling 9-8 victory over Italy in the event’s semifinals, securing Team USA’s first trip to the final since their Olympic event debut in 2018.

Day 4:

Moment of the day: A rivalry game that would serve as a preview of the gold medal game turned into an upset rout, as USA Women’s Hockey pulled out a 5-0 win over Canada in the group stage, with two goals from Hanna Belka and three assists from Abby Murphy.

Day 5:

Moment of the day: Jordan Stolz, 21, entered Milan as a competitor in four different speed skating disciplines, and got off to a flying start at his Games in the 1,000m – setting an Olympic record in a gold-medal-winning performance.

Day 6:

Moment of the day: Chloe Kim entered Milan having won back-to-back gold medals in the women’s halfpipe, but saw her bid for a three-peat turned upside down by an unexpected suspect: Choi Gaon, a 17-year-old from South Korea. Choi scored 90.25 points in her final round to secure her first Olympic gold medal.

Day 7:

Moment of the day: While Ilya Malinin entered the men’s singles figure skating as the favorite, the American fell twice in the free skate, part of an unexpectedly poor outing that saw him finish eighth. Mikhail Shaidorov of Kazakhstan won the gold medal, more than 11 points ahead of the rest of the field.

Day 8:

Moment of the day: Remember that mention of Stolz’s rival case a few paragraphs ago? And his Olympic record for winning the gold medal in the 1,000 meters on day three? Well, day 8 brought a similar story. Stolz excelled in the 500 meters, setting another Olympic record and adding another gold medal.

Day 9:

Moment of the day: Canadian skater Mikael Kingsbury says the 2026 Olympics will be his last, and he’s making the most of his final outing on the big stage. Kingsbury earned his fifth Olympic medal of his career — and Canada’s first gold in Milan — with a win in the men’s doubles on the ninth.

Day 10:

Moment of the day: Ilana Myers Taylor has been on the ice for some time, as Milan celebrated the American’s fifth season, taking home three silver medals and two bronze medals to show for her past experience. Myers Taylor, 41, finally captured her first gold medal in 2026, with a win in the monopole.

Day 11:

Moment of the day: Norway’s Tormod Frostad needed to make his final jump to claim a gold medal in the men’s big air, with American Mack Forehand edging him on the second-to-last jump of the event. Frostad did just that, earning a final score of 195.50 points out of a maximum of 200 to take home the gold medal.

Day 12:

Moment of the day: Mikaela Shiffrin, who was the youngest Olympic slalom champion in Sochi in 2014, was back at the top of the podium after a disappointing performance at the 2022 Games in Beijing. Shiffrin became the second skier ever to win slalom gold twice at the Olympic Games on the 12th.

Day 13:

Moment of the day: Although the USA Women’s Hockey Team dominated Canada in the group stage meeting between the two teams, the gold medal game had a reverse dynamic. Canada led 1-0 for most of the final two periods of the game, before America’s captain Hilary Knight sent the game into overtime. Megan Keller delivered the winner with an iconic goal.

Day 14:

Moment of the day: Finland held a two-goal lead in the men’s hockey semifinal, but Canada cruised to a 3-2 win to book a spot in the gold medal game. Nathan MacKinnon was the hero for Canada, scoring the game-winning goal on a power play with less than a minute to go.

Day 15:

Moment of the day: After all the drama of figure skating at these Olympics, Saturday’s ice dancing exhibition was a chance for fans to see the biggest stars one last time. Madison Schock, Evan Bates, Alyssa Liu, Amber Glenn and more wowed the audience with some amazing and innovative final acts.

Day sixteen:

Moment of the day: While Jack Hughes scored the winning goal in overtime for the USA Men’s Hockey Team, the Americans wouldn’t have gotten there without the performance of goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. The Winnipeg Jets goaltender made 41 saves against Canada, and nothing was more remarkable than denying Devon Toews with his paddle in the third period.
