Meet weightlifter Eger Olafsson, whose life has been shaped by his passion for strength, sport and competition.

In the weight room, Eger Olafsson is known for one thing above all else: commitment. Under the guidance of his coach, Orvar Arnarsson, Eger’s dedication was immediately apparent. Örvar describes him as fully committed: “His mentality, dedicated, is always full. He doesn’t stop until the time is up, you have to kick him out.”

This dedication led Aegir to achieve something he never imagined: compete for Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023. “It was an incredible feeling,” Egger said. “It was an honor to be there.” For his sister, Rannvij Olafsdotter, watching him compete was unforgettable, and she described the atmosphere as exciting, as the packed crowd cheered him on in a powerful and emotional moment.

After Berlin, Eger continued to build on his journey, competing at the IWF Championships in Keflavik, where he had the opportunity to perform in front of his family on his home soil. For them, it was a proud and meaningful moment, as they saw first-hand the impact he had not only on the sport, but on the lives of those around him.

Powerlifting has helped Iger grow in his confidence and self-belief, giving him a platform to challenge himself and achieve success. As he says, participating in Special Olympics is an amazing opportunity that has made him proud of who he is and what he can achieve.
