TCU and coach Sonny Dykes have agreed to a multi-year contract extension, the school announced Friday.

Dykes was under contract through 2028 and his latest listed salary was more than $7 million.

TCU has gone 36-17 since Dykes took over as Horned Frogs coach in 2022, including a trip to the College Football Playoff national championship game in that first season. TCU’s 36 wins are the most by a Big 12 program over the past four seasons.

“The opportunity to pursue a national championship, College Football Playoff, and Big 12 championships exists here in Fort Worth, and my family and I, as well as our entire staff, are excited to continue that pursuit as the Horned Frogs,” Dykes said in a statement.

The Horned Frogs went 9-4 in 2025 with an overtime win over USC in the Alamo Bowl.

TCU faces an offensive overhaul in 2026 after three-year quarterback Josh Hoover transferred to Indiana and offensive coordinator Kendall Briles took the same position at South Carolina. Harvard transfer quarterback Jaden Craig is considered the front-runner to start for TCU when it opens the season against North Carolina in Ireland.

“Competing for national and Big 12 championships requires the right kind of leadership, and Sonny has proven he is that person,” TCU athletic director Mike Buddy said in a statement. “His track record on the field, his standing in the community, and the decisions he has made to position this program to pursue these goals speak for themselves.”
